About Us
Flags of Glory welcomes all lesbians, bisexual, and queer positive women; and all non-binary and trans players, regardless of orientation, who are interested in learning and playing the sport of flag football. We aim to provide a comfortable, safe and welcoming environment that is free from harassment.Our referee(s) will have the opportunity to work with some awesome and talented flag football players helping them to build their skill level, learn the rules of the game and enjoy the ability to play in a safe harassment free environment.
Our Games
The first game begins at 3:00pm and the second begins at 4:30pm. It would be best to plan to be outside for 3 hours each time you join us. Each game has a total of 2 referees, and 1 volunteer sideline referee . Referees officiating the first game are required to set up the field, so are to arrive at 2:30pm. Referees officiating the second game will be required to tear down the set-up and ensure the field is returned to optimal condition. Our season is from May 26 until September 29 with Pride and long weekends off. We ask that referees commit to working at least 4 Saturdays throughout the season.
Major Responsibilities
Responsible for officiating games according to Flags of Glory rule book
Be a role model and assist in player skill development
Report serious incidents to league executives
Remain calm and level headed under tense circumstances
Follow agency policies
Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age
Available to work on Saturdays from 2:30-6pm
Experience in coaching or refereeing (flag) football games
Excellent communication and listening skills
Ability to work cohesively within a team
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to remain calm and level-headed under tense circumstances
Experience working within diverse cultures and communities
Can exercise good judgment and problem solving skills
Proven commitment to respecting people of diverse orientations and identities
Accessibility
Ability to spend 3 hours outside standing, in the summer heat
Ability to move with the play of the game up and down the sidelines
